The following project from the M.Ed. Educational Leadership program displays evidence of my learning and skills relating to the standard.

Key Assignment

Reflection on Coursework & Experiences

The purpose of standard seven is for school leaders to demonstrate their ability to build up and encourage teachers, faculty, and staff to become leaders in the school community. Additionally, this standard touches on a school leader's ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders. The principal shadowing project provided insight into this standard as I was able to spend an entire school day observing the roles and responsibilities of Dr. Mulholland, principal at Goldsboro Elementary Magnet School. Throughout the day, Dr. Mulholland displayed her skills in delegating tasks and strengthening relationships with all of the faculty and staff in the school by visiting their classroom or work environment and asking them if there was anything they need support with for the day.

This project was helpful in that it allowed me to see every component of a school leader's work day. It also showed me examples of how principals can support and develop other leaders in their school. While this project was only shadowing and did not allow me to practice my own leadership skills in this area, I have had the opportunity to apply what I learned from this project in my principalship. During my principalship at PSAT Academy, I displayed my strengths in this standard by ensuring I was available to support teachers in their instructional practice and/or with parent-teacher communication. Additionally, I worked alongside the Head of School at PSAT Academy to monitor teacher instruction and highlight their skills in order to develop them as leaders in our virtual school community.
