Reflection on Coursework & Experiences
The purpose of standard one is for school leaders to demonstrate their ability to create school goals that will enhance student learning and achievement on state standards and assessments. The school-wide instructional plan project is an appropriate representation of my skills and experiences related to this standard. In the instructional plan, I was able to work with the principal of Goldsboro Elementary Magnet School to create three short-term objectives that aligned with the school's mission and vision. Based on the short-term objectives, we were able to create instructional goals that were implemented by teachers, faculty, and staff in the 2022-2023 school year. Included in the instructional plan were specific targets under each short-term objective with corresponding instructional components and strategies. The effectiveness of the plan will be reviewed at the end of the 2022-2023 school year based on student growth and results on the state assessment.

During this project, I learned the importance of being able to create clear, concise, and measurable instructional targets and strategies within each short-term objective. For principals, the instructional plan is the foundation for every decision they make, action they take, and evaluation they conduct throughout the school year. Furthermore, it is the prime resource for school leaders to use in order to provide evidence of mission and vision alignment in all areas of instruction when the time comes for reviewing student learning results. Reflecting on this standard, I believe an area of strength in my leadership skills is instructional planning and goal development to meet state and district requirements.
